Abstract
- Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) and fluorosis are qualitative enamel defects that can compromise anterior esthetics and present clinical challenges due to variability in opacity characteristics. Among the available treatment options, resin infiltration using Icon (DMG) has shown promise as a minimally invasive alternative. This report describes two pediatric cases of MIH associated with fluorosis managed with different approaches. In the first case, the patient presented with dental fluorosis associated with MIH opacities in teeth 11 and 21. The conventional Icon protocol was applied, resulting in a favorable response in fluorosis areas; however, no infiltration was observed in the MIH opacities. In the second case, MIH affecting teeth 11 and 21, which was also associated with fluorosis, required selective enamel reduction to access the body of the lesion. This approach enabled effective infiltration and resulted in a satisfactory esthetic outcome. These findings suggest that Icon may represent a favorable clinical alternative for the esthetic management of pediatric patients with MIH and fluorosis, provided that the protocol is individualized according to the characteristics of the lesions.
