This article has been retracted by the editorial board of Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics (RDE).
Following publication, concerns were raised regarding the reliability of the data reported in this article, including the duplication of Tables 4 and 5. The authors attributed the duplication to a reporting error and submitted a corrected version of Table 5. However, the journal determined that further assessment was necessary and requested the underlying raw data. A post-publication investigation was initiated, and the materials submitted by the authors were reviewed by the Ethics Committee of RDE.
The review identified the following concerns:
(1) Several values reported as standard deviations appeared to represent standard errors of the mean. This apparent systematic reporting error would understate the variability in the data and could affect the interpretation of the findings.
(2) Several values presented in the published tables could not be reproduced from, or reconciled with, the raw dataset. The discrepancies exceeded those reasonably explainable by rounding.
(3) The raw dataset contained duplicate observations and patterns that raised additional concerns regarding data reliability. Although these findings did not constitute conclusive evidence of research misconduct, they further limited confidence in the reported results.
After consideration of the authors’ explanations, the raw data, and the independent statistical review, the editorial board concluded that the reliability of the published findings could not be assured. The article is therefore retracted to correct the scientific record, in accordance with the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
The corresponding author was informed of this decision and did not agree to the retraction.
The Editorial Board of RDE regrets any inconvenience this may have caused readers.
